If your building fits any of the descriptions on the left, it is required to have a Fire Safety and Evacuation plan on file with the FDNY (Section of 401.5 of the NY Fire Code)
This plan is the Level 2 plan required by the FDNY. This plan requires accounting for building occupants, and attending to persons with special needs.
A written description of the building and its appurtenances must be developed, in which the building elements such as stairways, elevators, exits, fire alarm boxes, emergency power, etc. must be documented.
Riser diagrams are required for the standpipe and sprinkler systems.
Floor plans of each level of the building must be developed to the FDNY standards.
A fire safety maintenance program must be developed and persons responsible for maintaining the building systems must have their certificates of fitness.
A Building Information Card must be developed for the FDNY first responders.
Low rise office buildings with 500 or more occupants, or 100 occupants on one floor.
Low rise hotels with more than 15 sleeping rooms above the street level, or 30 sleeping rooms in total.
Low rise homeless shelters.
Assembly occupancies over 300 persons, has a stage, a ballroom, or an restaurant/bar on a high rise floor.
Assisted living facilities with 25 or more persons above street level.
Educational buildings, or buildings that have educational spaces on high rise floors.
Factories with more than 25 persons above or below street level.
High hazard occupancies.
Hospitals, nursing homes, and other residential care facilities.
Mercantile occupancies with 30,000 sqft and 25 employees, covered malls larger than 30,000.
Warehouses larger than 20,000 sqft, or high rise warehouse spaces with more than 25 employees.
